home was hit hard by flooding in recent months, you can see and along with some ripped out ply-wood police say the two did not own the house..in fact, they were helping out. neighbor- they had a series of break-ins over there since the flood becuase no one was living there so a couple had volunteered to stay there to watch the property. when we went back to the house today, a generator was out on the lawn.still running. police say it was in the garage at the time of their deaths..giving out powerful fumes..and neighbors say the garage door closed putting all that into the home. batallion chief michael moore calling it a silent killer...you cant see it..cant smell it. moore- emissions with that exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide and in that case there was a lot probably pumped into the house and the folks didnt even know it. moore reminding everyone make sure your carbon

from a dead sleep by smoke alarms. the early morning fire leaving very little of this two-story farm house behind. ackerman was the only one home at the time and was able to get out just in time. the house a complete loss by the time fire crews arrived on scene minutes later. "i can't say enough, how many smoke detectors a person should have, keep your batteries changed, and constantly monitor them. it saved my life." the clarksville fire cheif echoing that statement. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. the home was an older farm house --- the homeowner had completely rehabbed the house about 10 years ago -- updating wiring at the time. we've got you covered...jessica hartman kwwl news. because of gusty winds today -- the fire department monitoring the

the trump campaign dealing with another vandalism issue an r-v- parked outside the iowa campaign headquarters in urbandale had someone smash a rock through it the front windshield was cracked the university of iowa is warning students of a third sexual assault reported to police this semester a campuswide alert being sent out over the weekend a victim reported being approached outside a residence hall by a man who then took the victim to a nearby corner, and reportedly assaulted the suspect is described as six foot three and older than college age two previous assaults were reported on october 2nd and september 28th we're learning more about a shooting that left two dead. this is video of the scene last night...near dogwood road in the town of freeport. officers called there after neighbors heard gunshots. kwwl's shirley descorbeth reporting the

community. including one person who says she found the bodies." a scary night for people officers called here because of multiple shots fired. at the time, kids were playing outside. neighbors helping one another to get them all inside...and out of danger. one woman, brave enough to run in between the homes...to see if anyone is hurt. "i started yelling, i found them, i found them. they're here...call 911. get an ambulance, they're both dead, they're both dead." when arriving -- deputies find the bodies of 55-year-old craig freile sarah szabo. we're told they were recently a couple...but seperated not too long ago. to release more information until those autopsies are finished. police say two armed robberies, that happened within minutes of each other, may be connected. the kum-and-go in the 500 block of riverside drive in iowa city robbed just before three in the morning - and nine minutes later, another kum-and-go robbed... just a mile away. kwwl's kristin rogers--joins us live from outside one of those gas stations--kristin? this is not the first time this year iowa city police are investigating an armed robbery-- in fact--we know of eight of them for sure-- iowa city police say they are not ruling out--some of these could be related. back in february--a robber set his sights on acapulco mexican bakery--surveillenc e video shows him using a gun to force the clerk to a safe--where the owners say he took thousands of dollars--
